At Thor's Woodshop, I take pride in exceptional artistry and craftsmanship. Every bowl is meticulously made by hand using high-quality tools and traditional techniques.
Most of my creations come from urban lumber — wood that would otherwise end up in a landfill or fireplace. I reclaim wood from freshly cut city trees, discarded pallets, broken furniture on the curb, and just about anywhere I can find it. Then I transform it into something useful, beautiful, and lasting.
This process isn’t easy. Milling and drying wood from a fresh-cut tree takes far more effort than buying kiln-dried lumber. So does dismantling and repurposing an old desk or porch swing. But I believe the extra work is worth it. It adds meaning, challenge, and character to each piece.
Because of the way I work and the materials I use, every item I make is truly one-of-a-kind. I don’t use templates or batch production. Each piece is shaped by what nature — and the past life of the wood — gives me. That’s where the art lives in my craft. So, if you fall in love with a bowl, cutting board, tables, islands, etc. on my site, please know it may not be replicated. That piece might have come from the local school library’s old shelves, a dying tree with rare spalting, or a porch swing built by someone’s grandfather. Once that wood is gone, it’s gone.
